EEdwina Ekins is a qualified Nutritionist (ATMS 27167) with a Masters in Nutrition from Deakin University and she is currently enrolled in a Masters in Youth Mental Health with Melbourne University. Edwina is a Student Member of Sports Dietetics Association (student member 5561) and a Member of Nutrition Australia.
Prior to a career change, Edwina spent 15 years in Banking and Finance and holds a Bachelor degree in Economics and a Bachelor of Asian Studies from ANU University, Canberra.
Edwina currently works from her Nutrition clinic in Frenchs Forest and a second clinic in Double Bay (inside Syd East Sports Medicine and Orthopedics (SESMO). Edwina’s focus and passion is sports nutrition – particularly teenage athletes.
In both clinics, Edwina works with teenage athletes competing at both amateur, state and national level in swimming, water polo, skiing, rowing, rugby, soccer, netball, track and field athletics, hockey, mini ironman, basketball, equestrian , CrossFit and even professional motor cross. Edwina supports the teenage athletes via individual body measurement (bio-impedance analysis) using an InBody machine. She also prepares training meal plans and competition day plans as well as general food and nutrition education.
Edwina is passionate about educating teenage athletes to eat “real food” and develop healthy eating habits. Her long term aim is to empower teenagers to manage their own food choices and nutrition strategies for life after school. As a result, Edwina conducts many seminars at sporting clubs and schools to both teenagers and their parents.
Edwina has two teenagers herself currently playing a number of different sports
As a junior Edwina was an elite gymnast and a member of the NSW gymnastics team. After retiring from gymnastics, Edwina played and competed in a number of sports at school and university including hockey, athletics, netball, soccer, skiing and tennis. More recently Edwina has taken up endurance running. In the last 5 years Edwina has competed in 10 different ½ marathons around Australia, the New York Marathon, Oxfam (100km), Coast Trek (50km), Routeburn race in NZ (38K), Coast Trek (60K) and the Noosa Triathlon.
Edwina’s interest outside of work is eating delicious fresh food!.
