Japanese Restaurant Crows Nest

Clients often asked me what is the healthiest restaurant or takeaway food. One of my favourites is authentic Japanese. (I say “authentic” as like many food cultures in Australia the traditional foods are gradually becoming more westernised and adding more sources, salt and sugar to appeal to Western taste so look for a traditional one).

Japanese people have one of the longest life expectancies in the world. One contributing factor is the smaller quantities of food consumed (calorie restriction). Meals are served in small individual dishes, limiting portion sizes. I have heard complaints about the small meal sizes at Japanese restaurants however the volume of food is correct, especially in the evening when we are generally inactive.

The other key health benefit is the opportunity to choose fish and seaweed. The Omega 3 in fish is proven to be anti-inflammatory for almost any condition and the seaweed around the rolls, in miso soup and in the salads, contains iodine, essential for thyroid health.

Finally, the Bento box style of eating encourages variety of food, increasing your vitamin and mineral intake in the one meal.

Recently I tried @ Restaurant in Crows Nest (the name is the same as the @ sign in an email address). It is on the corner of Falcon Street and Pacific Highway and was recommended by a Japanese friend and you know it is good when most of the clientele are Japanese. The food was fresh and of the highest quality. I would highly recommend it and even worth the trip for my clients in the East. You must book though. IT is BYO and does take away (02) 9437 5285
