The Food is Medicine Movement

Food is Medicine Kitchens was started in 2024 and was motivated by the “Food is Medicine Movement” in the US. This movement has seen significant developments following the Biden Administration’s White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health held in September 2022. This summit marked the first such conference in over 50 years and underscored a national commitment to addressing food and nutrition security.

The Future of the Food Is Medicine Movement

The movement continues to gain momentum with growing recognition from policymakers, healthcare providers, and the public. The efforts are now focused on scaling successful pilot programs, securing sustainable funding, and embedding nutrition services into the broader healthcare and social support systems. This Movement is coming to Australia Food Is Medicine Kitchens is a Leader in the space bringing education and practical skills to the people of Australia via culinary nutrition classes.

Your presenters

  • Edwina Ekins

    Edwina Ekins is qualified pracitising clinical nutritionist with a Master’s Degree in Nutritional Science. She is a competitive Masters athlete with a special interest in Youth sport. Edwina currently works with individuals 1:1 in her clinic, with sporting teams. schools and clubs in empowering Individuals to understand and embrace nutrition to maximise energy and performance, both In sport and everyday life.

  • Katie Ridgeway

    Katie Ridgeway is a qualified and professional chef with extensive experiencing in running entertaining cooking lessons. Katie has worked at some of Sydney’s best restaurants including The Grounds Alexandria, Chin Chin, Fred’s Paddington, and 10 William Street. She is now a private chef with her own business called Sage with Katie.
